We have been to Sri Lanka numerous times in the past 4 years to capture some amazing weddings, leaving Melbourne for Shavini and Dushan's destination wedding earlier this year we knew we would be witness to yet another, but this time amongst our much loved close friends. So it was election time in Sri Lanka when we touched down in Colombo, historically a very tense and divisive period for this small island nation. However we were there for a wedding and although the election debate was a constant presence, you quickly realise that life's moments have a special way of taking precedence. This actually brings us to a point of reflection. Amidst all the politics and tensions of election time, we were reminded that weddings are a representation of an ideal of who we are and our aspirations in this world. Shavini and Dushan's wedding was a union of two distinct faiths and the coming together of family and friends the world over to witness the union of life and the hope it gives to our future when we are able to set aside all agendas and commit to respect and value each other. In this moment of wanting to be together, we find in love there is an eternal peace that we all seek which by its very presence conquers any barriers in its way. Shavini and Dushan shared this moment with us on their wedding day, and as artists it is the most rewarding part of the work we do to be a part of and capture such an occasion.
The wedding took place at the historic Mt Lavinia Hotel and St Mary's Church in Dehiwale. From the beautiful Catholic Church ceremony to the stunning Buddhist Poruwa ceremony on the beach as dusk set it, it was a beautiful day and a festive night! Congratulations from the entire team at Ferndara to Shavini and Dushan as you embark on this new chapter of your lives.
