I had never heard of the city of Mysore in India, before planning for Soumya & Mayank's destination wedding there in November. When I look back now, it was quite the journey and an experience as an artist. Mysore is a sleepy city, steeped in history and adorned in the riches of a bygone era. It's vast but slow paced and quaint, and the people although extremely inquisitive are kind and generous.
Photographing a wedding is always a special experience, but there is an added layer of emotion when photographing two friends you have known throughout your life. I don't normally use the word "beautiful" to describe Soumya, or Mayank for that matter, as I'm far too busy having a laugh at their expense. However I can't deny that beyond just being there as a photographer, it was a privilege as a friend to capture a moment in time in their story, so for these celebrations I will admit the obvious, that they are indeed a very beautiful and amazing couple.
From our pre-shoot in the bustling Mysore market, the ancient grounds of the Chennakesava Temple and the grandeur of Mysore Palace to two days of wedding festivities leading up to the wedding ceremony itself at the Windflower Resort, it truly was a joyous & emotional affair. Coming from Australia and having a destination wedding in India, meant that India and the experience of India was as much a part of the photographs as any other element. This was something we felt we needed to portray in our art, and in Mysore the canvas was bursting and full of life from the first stroke of the brush.
For Ferndara it was truly an international affair. One of our much loved assistants and a team member of Ferndara in Australia, Laya flew all the way down from Stockholm in Sweden to assist me. I think we were both spoiled for moments by what ensued. The color, joy, culture, tradition and fusion of Mayank and Soumya's celebrations was a treat for our cameras. To be a part of a wedding, and have the love and warmth of friends and family from Soumya & Mayank made it an extra special wedding for us.
Congratulations to two very kind-hearted souls who together, are an incredible duo. Thank you for having us there as you embark upon this new chapter of your lives.
I know these images will take you on our Journey in Mysore, with Soumya & Mayank. / Rukshan
